Armenia's freight transportation up 10.8% in January 2023

More than 1.2 million tons of various goods were transported in Armenia in the first month of 2023, 10.8% growth compared to the same period of time in 2022,while the number of transported passenger surged by 35.2% to over 12.6 million, according to the National Statistics Committee.

It said some 724,000 tons of cargo were transported by trucks, up 15.5% from January 2022; about 240,200 tons - by rail transport (11% rise ), about 263,500 tons - by trunk pipeline transport (0.7% drop) and about 2,300 tons - by air transport (2.3 times rise).

In the first 10 months of the year, some 10.2 million people were transported by road transport (38.92% growth), over 1.9 million by electric transport (15% growth), about 363,100 by air (70% growth) and 34,100 people by rail (4.9% growth).

Revenues from postal and courier activities amounted to about 1.7 billion drams, up 28.2% compared to the same month of 2022.

Also, 345 road accidents were reported in the first month of the year, up 6.8% from the same period of time in 2022. Some 34 people were killed in these accidents, up 62% from the first month of 2022 and another 490 were injured, ARKA reports.
