Berdia Sichinava: 981 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, 2 001 have recovered

2 981 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed within the last 24 hours. It was announced by Berdia Sichinava, Deputy Head of the Task Force operating at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council at a press-briefing held today at the Government Administration.

He spoke about the most recent statistics related to COVID-19 and measures taken by the Government of Georgia as of December 17, 2020.

“Within the scope of intensive testing 17 029 tests have been performed within the last 24 hours, out of which 8 859were antigen-based express test method and 8 170 PCR.

2 981 new cases of COVID-19 are confirmed within the last 24 hours. Since the detection of the first case, 201 368 cases have been proven test-positive so far in Georgia.

2 001 individuals have recovered within the last 24 hours, thus making the total number of recoveries reach 169 282.

Unfortunately, 31 new fatal cases have occurred within the last 24 hours. Since the outbreak, total death toll has reached 1 953.

Out of 2 981 new cases detected today, geographic coverage of COVID-19 is as follows: 1 282 cases have been detected in Tbilisi, 228 – in Adjara, 489 – in Imereti, 229 – in Kvemo Kartli, 160 – in Shida Kartli, 64 – in Guria, 227 – in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 145 – in Kakheti, 87 – in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 55 – in Samtskhe-Javakheti and 15 – in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

At present, active cases of COVID-19 have reached 30 107, out of which 6 758 individuals are treated at hospitals, out of which 2 896 are stationed in Tbilisi, 815 – in Adjara and 1 379 – in Imereti. Acute health conditions are observed in the case of 1 130 patients, out of which 520 are based in Tbilisi, 140 – in Adjara and 246 – in Imereti. Lung ventilators are used in the case of 430 patients, out of which 209 are stationed in Tbilisi, 50– in Adjara and 62 – in Imereti. 2 247 individuals are placed at clinical hotels, out of which 806 are based in Tbilisi, 1 062 – in Adjara and 135 – in Imereti. 21 102 individuals are treated at home.

471 individuals are placed in quarantine, out of which 248 are located in Tbilisi, 76 – in Adjara and 7 – in Imereti.

In total, 20 545 individuals have been transported from the sovereign border to quarantine spaces in the period of October 6 through December 16, 2020.

At present, 47 764 individuals are in self-isolation, out of which 19 811 are based in Tbilisi, 7 492 – in Adjara and 6 268 – in Imereti” announced Berdia Sichinava.
