Georgia has sovereign rights to have its own national interests. We have economic and trade relations with Russia, we have 1 million ethnic Georgians who live in Russia, in the form of diaspora, and direct flights with Russia, I think, are nothing unusual, - Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili said at the panel discussion of the Qatar Economic Forum.
According to him, direct flights do not mean that the Georgian Government conducts any political consultations with Russia.
"Many countries have flights with Russia, but we have declared that not a single sanctioned company, not a single sanctioned line will fly to Georgia. America is a very important, strategic partner for Georgia, and we are very grateful for everything that America has done for us, and we are also very grateful to Europe. Georgia has sovereign rights to have its own national interests. We have economic and trade relations with Russia, we have 1 million ethnic Georgians who live in Russia, in the form of diaspora, and direct flights with Russia, I think, are nothing unusual, but this does not mean that we conduct any political consultations with Russia. As I mentioned, this is a constituent part of our economic and trade relations, just like the European Union and America are doing with Russia", said the Prime Minister.
