Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili declares that EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi will hand over a membership questionnaire to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili today.
According to Garibashvili, he will personally control this process and the questionnaire must be sent back to Brussels as soon as possible.
"Today is an important day. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili is in Luxembourg, where he will meet with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, who will hand over a membership questionnaire to him. As you know, by submitting the membership application and receiving the EU membership questionnaire, Georgia is moving to a new stage. The process has begun, now we are receiving this questionnaire. This process requires maximum involvement from all agencies. I will personally control this process, I will be personally involved in this process. We must send back the questionnaire to Brussels as soon as possible.
I would also like to remind our citizens once again that all the progress that has been made in recent years in our relations with the EU is the merit of our authorities, our ruling party - the Association Agreement, free trade, visa-free regime, and now the membership application, all this is related to the Georgian Dream. So, of course, as soon as we get the questionnaire, we will engage in the process with responsibility. I expect that we will have close cooperation with the Parliament and other stakeholders who will contribute to this process," Gharibashvili said at the governmental meeting.
