Georgia ranks 1st in the survey's component assessing low government-interaction corruption risks, a very important factor toward the country's positioning in the future, Head of the Georgian Government's Administration Ilia Darchiashvili commented on the TRACE International Bribery Risk Matrix that ranks Georgia among the top 20 countries in Europe and 30 around the globe.

According to the Head of the Government Administration, the survey draws on a number of important directions, notably on anticorruption legislation and government transparency.

"This survey evaluated the effectiveness of anticorruption reforms in various countries, drawing on different concrete components to assign scores to countries. Notably, these are anticorruption legislation, civil society's engagement, and government openness and transparency. Georgia ranks 1st in one of the subdomains of the survey, one that assesses low government-related corruption risks, and that is very important in terms of our country's positioning in the future," Ilia Darchiashvili said.

According to the survey, Georgia is ahead of 13 EU member states: Italy, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czechia, Latvia, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Malta, also developed non-EU member states: Lichtenstein and San Marino. The matrix assesses levels of corruption in various countries, namely in terms of opportunity for bribe, anticorruption legislation, government transparency, and the level of civil society's development. Georgia has the highest score and ranks 1st in the world in such a key component as Low Corruption Risks in Interactions with Government. According to the survey's methodology, each country is assigned an overall score for corruption risks and is assessed on a scale of 1 to 100 in each direction, in which 1 point stands for low/nonexistent corruption, while 100 points mean high-level corruption.
