Georgia-Russia Trade Turnover Exceeded USD 2 BLN

In January-November 2022, the external merchandise trade in Georgia amounted to USD 17.018 million, which was 32.2% more compared to the same period of the previous year. Of which, exports increased by 31.8% to USD 5.037 billion, and imports by 32.4% to USD 11.981 billion.

As to the official data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), trade relations between Georgia and Russia have deepened this year. Accordingly, in 11 months, the trade turnover with the northern neighbor increased by 49.2% and amounted to USD 2.205 billion. According to this data, Russia took second place among the largest trade partners with a 13%-share.

According to the document, imports take the largest share in trade turnover with Russia. Trade turnover increased at the expense of imports. During the reporting period, commodities worth of USD 1.607 billion were imported from Russia to Georgia, the increase was 73.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. Oil and oil products take the first place among imported goods.

TOP-5 Import Commodities:

1. Oil and oil products - USD 561.8 million, 583 322 tons;
2. Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons - USD 71.5 million, 264,747 tons;
3. Wheat or wheat-rye flour - USD 59.5 million, 159,023 tons;
4. Coke and semi-coke - USD 55 million, 103 215 tons;
5. Wheat and meslin - USD 52.3 million, 145,776 tons;

Other goods - total: USD 807.5 million.

As for 11 months, the exports in Russia have also increased slightly. According to official statistics, this year the country exported goods worth USD 597.9 million in this direction. The increase compared to the same period of the previous year was 8.9%.

Statistics show that the main export goods in this period were natural grape wines. 64.5% of the largest export commodities are sold on the Russian market. Wine exports to Russia increased by 26% in 11 months.

1. Natural grape wines - USD 150 million, 67,064 tons;
2. Ferroalloys - USD 108.8 million, 57 423 tons;
3. Motor cars (units) – USD 65.2 million, 4,654 pieces;
4. Alcoholic beverages - USD 53 million, 10,527 tons;
5. Mineral and fresh waters - USD 46.7 million, 84 467 tons;

Other goods - total: USD 174 million.
