"The government has already purchased much more than last year through the relevant institutions and the agencies," Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia said at a briefing at the Government Administration after the Interagency Council meeting was held about the flu vaccine.

According to the Head of the Government, the supply of the purchased vaccines to Georgia will gradually start next week.

"Today, unfortunately, there is a severe global, understandable deficit of the vaccine for understandable reasons. The demand is quite high. I would also like to tell you that the government has already purchased much more than last year through the relevant institutions and the agencies. The supply of the purchased vaccines to Georgia will start gradually from next week. We have already purchased additional amounts of the vaccine and are continuing this process gradually.

I am sure there will be no shortage of flu vaccine in the country, but it needs a step-by-step approach. There is no need to start any panic. The flu season has not yet begun. The flu season in Georgia starts in the second half of November, and, consequently, we have enough time to help the private sector and fully fulfill the obligations of the state. We all understand what the next challenge of the pandemic will be. The first stage was a completely unknown process to the world. Today, a new degree of this unknown process brings the coincidence of the combination of the virus and the flu, and we will see what the result will be. We have this reinsured. No problem in helping the private sector as well. However, they have their responsibilities and, in turn, continue to make their own purchases. We will help the private sector, and there will be no flu vaccine shortage in Georgia," said Giorgi Gakharia.
