The number of transit trucks moving across the Georgian border has increased to a record high amounting to 332,000 in 2021. The increase amounted to 7% compared to 2020.
Each country in the region uses Georgian roads for importing or exporting products. More than 900 heavy trucks cross Georgia’s border daily, transporting up to 17,000 tons of products per day.
There is a special fee for the transit of cargo through Georgia. Since 2010, each truck has to pay GEL 200 road toll for crossing the border, of which GEL 66.4 million went into the 2021 budget, which is 3.4 million GEL more compared to 2020.
The statistics show, that most of the trucks are going to Armenia, followed by Azerbaijan, Turkey and Russia.
