Tbilisi Mayor, Kakha Kaladze says, that Georgia deserved the EU candidate status last year as well, because it had taken concrete steps for it.

According to him, not granting the status to Georgia was a political decision.

"I have repeated it many times and I will say it again that Georgia deserved the status of a candidate for the European Union. It is true that a decision was made regarding Ukraine and Moldova, but we were the first to deserve it. Don't take this as if we reproach a country at war, God forbid. On the contrary, I will always be happy for the success of Ukrainians, however, if we look at it realistically, with parameters and numbers, Georgia is the first that has taken concrete steps - implementing reforms, fighting corruption, etc.

Not granting the candidate status was a political decision and the public understood very well why it happened. The government of Georgia is a problem for them, because it does not join the sanctions, does not start a war and does not open a second front in the country. All this was used as a kind of leverage. After that, they gave us a 12-point plan," said Kakha Kaladze.

In addition, in response to the journalist's question, whether the government fulfills the instructions regarding Nika Gvaramia and Mikheil Saakashvili, Kakha Kaladze said that there is no mention of them in the 12-point plan.

"Our government is ready to fulfill meticulously and do everything for the country to receive the status. It does not depend on us what decision they will make. If they give it to us, we will be happy. If they don't give it to us, that's not a problem either. Neither Gvaramia nor the criminal Saakashvili are mentioned in this 12-point plan," said the Tbilisi Mayor.
