Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili held a special briefing on the decision made by the European Union.
The PM said at the briefing that the EU had given Ukraine and Moldova candidate country status "in advance" and "it might be better for Georgia not to receive this gift in advance yet". According to Irakli Gharibashvili, this might be a good motivation for Georgia to implement the reforms.
However, the Prime Minister noted at the briefing that he was not going to consider 12 recommendations by the EU "point by point".
"I am not going consider the recommendations point by point. I want to explain that Ukraine is in a real war and trouble, Moldova is in a difficult situation as well, the EU set conditions for them to encourage these countries in advance. The French President publicly has declared that Ukraine is given the status due to the war. So, the EU has granted them a gift. In our case, they said that we do not deserve a gift if we do not meet these conditions.
Taking into account the difficult situation in Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the fact that Georgia is ahead of both countries in terms of achievements, it might be better we have not received this gift in advance yet”, - Irakli Garibashvili said.
