"I congratulate the Georgian people on the decision that was made yesterday to give a European perspective," Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze told the media.
According to Kakha Kaladze, the government of Georgia takes responsibility, that the country will get candidate status as soon as possible.
"It would be good to get the candidate country status, but it does not work. There are specific recommendations that need to be implemented and we take responsibility for that. We will do our best for the country to receive this status as soon as possible.
The government has already achieved it. Georgia is an associate member state today, we already have Visa Free travel with European countries, as well as a free trade agreement with the EU," said Kakha Kaladze.
