"Are you a business ombudsman or the MP from this tribune today? I did not want to start this discussion, but you do not follow me in a constructive dialogue,” MP Thea Tsulukiani addressed this question to former Business Ombudsman and current MP Mikheil Daushvili.

The debate between the colleagues took place at the extraordinary plenary session on January 4, as Mikheil Daushvili initiated amendments to the Labor Code.

The point is that the amended bill provides removal of Article 2. 3 from the Labor Code, which ensures prohibition of any form of discrimination.

According to Thea Tsulukiani, the removal of this norm is a huge step backward in labor relations and in the private sector.

For his part, the author of the bill has replied to the former Minister of Justice that from this tribune he is a defender of everyone, including business.

“I want to tell Mrs. Thea <Tsulukiani>, that I also protect the interest of the business from this tribune, as I think and believe that private sector and business is the driving force of our country and economy”, Mikheil Daushvili said.
Finally, the Speaker of Parliament proposed to the initiator of the amendments to leave the mentioned paragraph in the Code. Mikheil Daushvili considered the submitted proposal and finally, the Parliament approved the bill with the mentioned paragraph. As for the other two bills included in the package of amendments, their voting was postponed until the January 5 sitting in order to hold additional consultations.
