Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev threatened European countries with higher gas prices amid the temporary suspension of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to him, such actions will lead to an increase in gas prices up to €2,000. He announced this on his Twitter page.
“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz instructed to stop the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Well, welcome to the new world, in which Europeans will soon pay €2,000 per thousand cubic meters of gas,” Medvedev wrote, The Saxon reports.
On December 21, 2021, the price of gas in Europe reached a record high and exceeded $2,100. At its peak, the price of the futures was $2,137 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.
Besides, due to Russia's recognition of L/DPR, the UK imposed sanctions against Moscow. The British government has imposed restrictions on five Russian banks and three Russian businessmen close to Vladimir Putin. The following were sanctioned: Promsvyazbank, Industrial Savings Bank, Joint Stock Company Black Sea Bank for Development and Reconstruction, Joint Stock Bank Russia, Genbank.
Restrictions also apply to Gennady Timchenko, Boris and Igor Roitburg.
