The Committee discussed and approved the new State Concept of Gender Equality, which is the legislative initiative of the members of the Parliament and envisages the approval of an updated concept, which is based on the Constitution of Georgia, the laws of Georgia, and all the international framework documents to which Georgia is a party.
The concept encompasses all existing areas, these are women's participation in political and public life, economic empowerment, labor rights, and their protection, eliminating gender-based violence against women and domestic violence, child marriage, and other harmful practices.
"This is a multiparty document with a broad consensus, which is a unique case and has also been developed with the participation of all non-governmental organizations, including the UN Women and international donor organizations”, - the rapporteur, Nino Tsilosani, stated.
At today's sitting, the Committee endorsed the amendment of the Loan Agreement between Georgia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which provides for the abolition of the 2nd tranche.
The document, which was signed on July 28, 2020, calls for the allocation of 90 million Euros over 15 years, with 3.5 years as preferential, with an interest rate based on EURIBOR.
According to the First Deputy Minister of Finance Giorgi Kakauridze, "We discussed the idea that we would have to reduce borrowing during the budget debate. We've talked to the state energy system, and we've determined that it won't need to take on so much debt since it'll be able to save money over time. We have opted not to take the loan because the arrangement is not yet valid. As a result, the 55 million Euro tranche will be annulled, and the power system will provide funds itself for projects starting in 2024”.
The Committee approved the change.
