Meetings between the PM and the private sector are leftovers of the Soviet Era, - Sandro Chumburidze, head of the Georgia-EU Business Council (EUGBC) said in an interview with the Analytics.
He notes, that this practice should not be continued.
Chumburidze declares that business communication with the government poses certain risks and statements must be made at the level of business councils. According to Chumburidze, EUGBC offered the former Prime Ministers to have direct contact with the business through several business councils.
“I consider that meetings between the PM and the business are leftovers of the Soviet Era. I tell you directly that the representatives of big business are not happy to meet with the government because it is a pointless obligation for them and no one knows what other obligation the government will impose them at this time. Not to mention the big businesses, can you name any European country, where PMs or Presidents meet the Business, it is absurd. If anything must be voiced for the business, the EU-Georgia Business Council unites 100 companies, while other councils include 500-600 small, medium and large-sized companies. 4 - 5 unions can voice the statements of the business without the presence of the businessmen. I see some businessmen have close relations and contacts with the government and finally that is harmful,” said the head of the Georgia-EU Business Council.
