“The state must provide clinics with an uninterrupted source of oxygen”, - healthcare specialist Ani Kavtaradze declares.

As Kavtaradze notes, oxygen producing plants should be checked, as there is the risks of overloading and problem might be created to the oxygen production.

“The state must provide clinics with oxygen producing plans, if they do not have an uninterrupted source of oxygen. In addition, the existing oxygen plants should be inspected as well, as overloading of the plant can create the same problems like the previous pandemic wave. Today the state must have defined how many people can get to the clinic and on average how severe they can be. The need for oxygen in the country should be calculated accordingly”, said the healthcare specialist.

According to the Ministry of Health, medical oxygen is being produced in 40 clinics across the country at this stage, and oxygen facilities are being installed in 12 clinics.

The Ministry of Health declares, that 4,069,320 liters of oxygen will be produced daily in the clinics. According to the agency, oxygen expenditures depend on the state of the patient’s health and the form of treatment. For example, in the case of nasal cannula, the average consumption is 3 liters per minute, CPAP consumes 22 liters, and facial mask - 8 liters.

According to Geostat, Georgia purchased USD 1,241,520 worth of oxygen from neighboring countries in 9M2021. In the same period of 2020, this figure stood at USD 20,890.
