The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) updated the analytical report. According to the document, the share of non-performing loans in the banking system of Georgia amounts to 5.2%. The loan has the status of non-performing loan (NPL) if the borrower is in default and hasn't made any scheduled payments of principal or interest for a certain period of time.

The IMF's methodology for counting non-performing loans is different, which actually records overdue loans rather than non-performing loans. According to this standard, in banking, commercial loans are considered nonperforming if the borrower is 90 days past due.

According to the statistics of the National Bank, mortgage loans account for 21.7% of the total credit portfolio, which amounts to GEL 9.9 billion. As of December 2022, 3% of this portfolio was classified as non-performing by banks.

There are a total of 144,000 mortgage loans in the country.
