On the Georgian Government's decree signed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, October 11 has been declared a Day of Mourning, to commemorate the victims of the October 8, 2021 residential building collapse on May 26 Street in Batumi.
Three people have been charged with violating safety rules during construction-reconstruction works that resulted in deaths and severe consequences, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia reported on Sunday.
According to the investigation, those individuals removed load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls during construction-renovation works that led to the collapse.
Interior Ministry apprehended three people over the incident on Saturday, including a ground floor flat owner who hired those two construction-renovation workers.
A total of nine people, including three minors, have died following the collapse on October 8.
