The state plans to start construction of the access road to Anaklia Port after the investor is revealed. As the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Mzia Giorgobiani states, the road project already exists and the state will fulfill this obligation within the time frame after identifying the investor.
"As soon as the investor is revealed, the state will fulfill its obligation. Most importantly, the road project already exists, so as soon as the [identity of the investor] is known, appropriate resources will be provided in the state budget so that we can start this project. We are waiting for an investor. As for the railway, I don't have any information about the railway", says Mzia Giorgobiani.
It is not known whether there are investors interested in the Anaklia port project.
As Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced that the Anaklia port will be built by the state with 51% ownership of shares, while the rest will be made available to international partners through a tender process. Later on, speaking on the necessity of reviving the project, during the presentation of the annual report on the Georgia government’s performance, Garibashvili declared that, in terms of alienating the seaports in Batumi and Poti under private ownership, when the state cannot set any tariff regulations, construction of the port at Anaklia is crucial to meet the needs of diversifying the existing transport routes and developing new ones.
