The National Bank of Georgia publishes interactive press releases about current tendencies of resident commercial banks as of February 2023.
In February 2023, compared to the previous month, the total assets of Georgian commercial banks (in current prices) increased by GEL 41.2 million , (or by 0.06%) and constituted GEL 67.8 billion (exchange rate effect excluded above mentioned indicator increased by 1.2%).
The banking sector's equity capital equals GEL 9.6 billion, which makes up 14.2% of the commercial banks total assets.
Deposits:
The total volume of non-bank deposits in the country′ s banking sector decreased by 0.08% or by GEL 36.79 million (exchange rate effect excluded volume of deposits increased by 0.54%), compared to the end of January 2023 and constituted GEL 43.61 billion by the end of February 2023. In February, the volume of term deposits increased by GEL 38.20 million (by 0.23%; exchange rate effect excluded volume of term deposits increased by 0.65%). Demand deposits decreased by GEL 74.99 million (by 0.28%; exchange rate effect excluded volume of demand deposits increased by 0.48%).
Loans:
The volume of loans issued by commercial banks (excluding interbank loans) in February 2023 decreased by GEL 9.46 million or by 0.02% compared to the previous month (exchange rate effect excluded, increased by 0.81%) and constituted GEL 44.45 billion by the end of February 2023. The volume of loans in national currency increased by GEL 144.87 million (0.59%) and the volume of loans in foreign currency decreased by GEL 154.32 million or by 0.77% in the same period (exchange rate effect excluded, increased by 1.07%).
As of the end of February 2023, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks, including 13 - foreign-controlled banks.
