Services Provided By Slaughterhouses Became More Expensive In 3Q - Geostat

Service prices provided by animal and poultry slaughterhouses operating in Georgia increased in 3Q2022.

According to the preliminary data published by the National Statistics of Georgia (Geostat), at the end of 3Q2022, the number of bovine animals decreased by 3.2% compared to the III quarter of 2021 and reached 933.0 thousand heads. Of which, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes equaled 457.8 thousand heads, which is 0.3 percent more than the same indicator of the previous year.

The number of pigs equaled to 202.4 thousand heads which is 15.9 percent less than at the same period of the previous year. The number of poultry decreased by 0.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and equaled 10.6 million heads.

During this period, 119 animal and poultry slaughterhouses were operating in Georgia, 18.5% of them were located in Kvemo Kartli region, 16.8% - in Kakheti, 14.3% - in Imereti, 13.4% - in Shida Kartli, 10.9% - in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, and 26.1% - in other regions.

According to the document, in 3Q2022, 107.8 thousand cattle were slaughtered in slaughterhouses, of which 44.2% were cows, 43.1% were pigs, and 11.1% were sheep and goats. The share of other livestock (not including poultry) is 1.5%.

According to official statistics, the average price of slaughtering service is: cow slaughtering - GEL 32.6 , sheep or goat slaughtering - GEL 14.9, and pig slaughtering fee - GEL 27.5.
